3CR Radiothon

As a fund raiser for Community Radio 3CR, the SUWA Show (Squatters and Unwaged Airwaves) will be having film screenings over two noights at the Loophole Community Centre, 834A High St Thornbury.
On Friday 23 May it's the Short Attention Span Film Festival with a collection of activists shorts from local and overseas film makers.
On Friday 30 May it's "Sir Henry at Rawlinson's End", a surreal look at the Class Structure of Britain in the Fifties.
Both nights start at 7 pm, admission by gold coin donation.
There will be food available courtesy of Food not Bombs.

(Mark Parsons and
Iain McIntyre) make a rare Melbourne appearance at the
Loophole Community Centre

(834 High St, Thornbury)
from 4pm doing their garage punk thing with help from
Kelly and Tara Schintler (ex Jihad Against America)
and Adele Daniele (Thee Stag Knights)on vocals and
bass.
Also on the bill are the fabulous Fandoras,
Melbourne's own Pandoras tribute band, and Food Not
Bombs will be serving free food around 6pm.
Entry is $4, it's an all ages gig and all proceeds go to 3CR
and the SUWA show.

- You are a DIY music fan who lives in Melbourne or plans to visit;
- You are DIY musician who will play in Melbourne at some stage;
- You are a zine or DIY comic maker or distributor who does stalls at shows;
- You live in a Melbourne house and would like to offer it as a potential venue.

As a music fan, if you want to stay informed about DIY all ages house party gigs, let us know whether you’d like regular email or txt updates about dates and meeting locations/venues or if you’d just prefer one-off bits of info upon request.

As a musician or DJ, tell us if you or your band would like to play and we’ll send you more info on how it all works. Music is not limited by style or genre – only by whether we personally like it, and, most importantly, only if it’s DIY!

As a zinester/comic artist/distro, you can get in touch to find out dates and locations to run a stall at the gigs. As an artist, VJ or filmmaker, you might wanna suggest to include you work at the gig to make it a multimedia experience.

As a Melbourne resident (ANYWHERE IN ANY SUBURB), you’d like to offer up your home but would like a tonne of extra info before you take that step. Also, if noise complaints are a concern, the shows can be in the afternoon or in the evening – you decide.

As a food fan, good cook, food not bombs advocate, you’d like to cook for the events or wanna know whether there’s a BBQ there for you to bring your own food to cook. Please bear in mind that if you provide food, that the easiest way to cater to everyone is to make it vegan and delicious!

And in case you are wondering, the reason this network is being created is because of the lack of DIY all ages venues for shows in Melbourne. The recent closure of Good Morning Captain is only one of a long line of events and the Pink Palace will soon disappear also. If you know other people who you think may be interested in becoming involved, please pass this info onto them.

About the authors:

Kathleen Jones began writing for teenage magazines while still at school. She got married very early and had four children. For the next ten years she lived in Africa and the Middle East where she worked in English broadcasting. She now lives in the Lake District. Her published work includes poetry, magazine features, short stories and four biographies - most recently A Passionate Sisterhood (Virago) and Catherine Cookson (Little Brown). Matt Thorne was born in 1974 and is the authoir of Tourist (1998), Eight Minutes Idle (1999, Winner of an Encore Award), Dreaming of Strangers (2000), Pictures of You (2001) and Child Star (2003), all published by Weidenfeld & Nicholson. He also co-edited All Hail the New Puritans (4th Estate, 2000)

Jeff Luers (aka Free) was convicted of 11 felony charges and sentenced to 22 years and 8 months on 16 June 200 after igniting 3 suv's (Chevrolet trucks) in a salesyard, as a global warming action against these Suv's that pump tonnes of gas out into the atmosphere. Jeff was demonstrating against corporate greed.
Free states he took extra care and used specific fuels to ensure no one would be injured.

Thursday: The launch of the Fiend magazine national tour at the Tote. Ikon were on first with their old school SoM, Bauhaus, Joy Division sound, back playing live after recording their new EP. Dandelion Wine were next with Naomi goffed up in a black PVC dress and dark hair, they probably played a bit rockier than you would expect on this bill, suprising people who have only heard the more atmospheric stuff from their CD. Immaculata brought their usual contingent down from Ballarat and got people dancing down the front.
Friday did the Squatters radio show at 3CR including an live telephone link up to Nick in California to discuss the FBI's recent action againt Rob Middaugh, Friday night went to a farewell party for Danielle who is off the the outback for three months, strange mood at the party all the Food not Bombs crew hung out together hogging the Cd playing and scaring everyone else out of the room.

Saturday at <a href="http://stateofemergency.nomasters.org>State of Emergency</a> ( an autonomist conference being held in a squatted warehouse) cooking all morning for the hundreds of hungary activist. I know what the Sleater Kinney fans are on about with their talk about hot lesbian grrls, the turnout for the queer radical activism workshop....cute
Because the warehouse was such a big space and so much was happening, some of the more interesting sounding workshops were cancelled as their conveeners wanted to attend someone else's workshop.
Saturday night went to the launch of "Top Fellas" a book about the Sharpie/skinhead culture in melbourne during the 60's and 70's then on to the Arthouse for the Punk Show with Pisschrist, Terror Firma, Charter 77 and Schifosi.
